thralls (fighting slaves) of Torvaldsland

Male slaves in torvaldsland:
The male slaves in Torvladsland are called thralls. They are hardy strong men or youths enslaved for cheap labor from raiding or perhaps from an inability to pay a debt. The books do not refer to thralls as being the less masculine male as the silk slave of the southern regions.
The men of the north do not have much patience with thralls, they are worked hard, often despised and must obey instantly and perfectly or can be immediately killed.
They are used to work the fields, and other manual labors such as turning the spits of meats over the fires in the halls of their Jarl.
A thrall is never allowed to touch a bond-maid, the property of a free man unless one is given to them for use as a form of punishment for the bond. To touch a Free Woman would be instant death.
Thralls wear short tunics of white wool and their hair is kept closely cropped. They wear collars of hammered bands of iron with an attached welded ring and are kept chained for the night in the bosk sheds. Young thralls might be chained in the kitchen instead of the bosk shed and be used to greet and wash the hands of guest of the Jarl as well as perform the duties of an errand runner.
Thralls must never touch the war arrow, or any weapon to do so would mean death at the hands of free men
Thralls were at one time sacrificed to the gods of Torvaldsland by the Rune Priest but that practice has since ceased.
